Catalhoyuk & Alacahoyuk
Anatolia bears traces of the most profound changes in human history and the mysteries of many past civilizations.
The mounds found all over Türkiye, each full of many secrets, continue to reveal new dimensions of human history through ongoing research and findings.
Çatalhöyük, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its rooftop-accessed houses and streetless city layout, is the pioneer of the large megacities we live in today. It is home to one of the world’s first agricultural societies, where the first urban planning can be seen in wall paintings, and it forms one of the most significant centers of the Neolithic era, where communal life and an economy based on agricultural production began.
On the other hand, Alacahöyük, the artistic and cultural center of the Hittites – regarded as one of history’s earliest empires – preserves traces not only of the Hittites but also of the Phrygians, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman eras across four distinct layers. Moreover, the sun discs unearthed during the archaeological excavations at Alacahöyük, where the first national excavations of the Republican era were conducted, shed light on one of history’s most brilliant civilizations. Also, the magnificent Sphinx Gate opens the door to the unknown aspects of history.
Behind this door, many valuable pieces of information and mysteries about history, society, and humanity await discovery and are waiting to come to light.
